This year’s Trek passed through Borenore, Bowen Park, Cudal, Murga, Yamma Forest, Forbes, Eugowra, Gooloogong and Canowindra, before returning to Borenore.
Mr McMahon said the Trek’s goal was to raise $180,000, but the final tally reached more than $250,000.
“This is a tremendous amount of money going towards children and their families living with cancer. The beauty of the Central West Tractor Trek is that the money stays in the Central West and all donations are tax deductible,” he said.
Mr McMahon said they are still collecting final sponsorship donations to add to the tally.
“We had 32 entries this year, but there were over 140 people involved as we have to have ambulance, RMS [Roads and Maritime Services] staff at check points and Rural Fire Brigades on stand by.
“It’s a hectic three days – we are up at 6am, everyone is breath tested at 6.30am and 7am is breakfast. Then we hit the road at an average speed of 30 kilometres per hour. After a long day at the wheel we have dinner about 6.30pm, followed by more fundraising events such as auctions etc. We’re lucky to get to bed before midnight.”
Mr and Mrs McMahon have been selling tickets all year for Camp Quality – they were in Oberon’s main street most Fridays and in Blayney on Tuesdays. The major raffle winners went to Blayney, Orange and Bathurst.
Next year they will be going as far as Cowra to sell tickets.
On alternating Fridays the McMahons sold raffle tickets to raise money for Oberon and District Museum’s new pavilion – an ongoing project which they hope to see finalised in the near future.
Mr McMahon thanked all their supporters over the last 12 months of fundraising.
The 2015 Tractor Trek is set to return to Oberon.
“It will start in Bathurst, but the main night on the Saturday night we will be having dinner at the RSL Club and I think some of the motels in the area are booked already,” Mr McMahon said.
“It brings a lot of business to Oberon and we will be looking for local sponsorship to help finance the 2015 Camp Quality Tractor Trek.”
Mr and Mrs McMahon will start their 2015 Camp Quality fundraising next month.
