Water flows are good in the waterways, and the quality of the water also bodes well for fishermen.

Peter Byrom, treasurer of the Oberon branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society, the organisation responsible for stocking the waterways with young trout, said he expected some top quality fishing this weekend.

“Over recent weeks I have seen plenty of fish jumping, so they are there to be had,” he said. “Everything is looking good, which all add to Oberon’s reputation as a fishing centre.”

He expected more anglers to be fishing Lake Oberon  this season, now that access facilities are being improved at The Reef.

Members of CAS recently put 16,000 rainbow fry into the Duckmaloi River, Brisbane Valley Creek, Campbells River, Tuglow River and Jaunter Creek as part of its annual restocking program. 

This was part of a consignment of 140,000 rainbow fry from the NSW Department of Fisheries’ New England trout hatchery put into Central West waterways.

“The fry were possibly not as big as in the past,  but this did not detract in any way at all from their quality,” Mr Byrom said. “As usual they were a tribute to the skill and care of the staff at the Dutton hatchery.”

Oberon CAS branch will release 12,000 brown trout fry later this month.
