Artists and creative people will share an eclectic mix of stories and ideas at the networking night – run under the PechaKucha 20x20 format – on Tuesday, August 26 from 5pm at 131 on Main.
To be hosted by regional arts organisation Arts OutWest, the Oberon event will be one of nine nights throughout the Central West this winter.
“This will be a social event for anyone interested in arts and culture – a chance to meet, mingle, introduce yourself, make contacts,” Arts OutWest executive officer Tracey Callinan said.
“It’s also a chance to hear local arts stories in bite-sized presentations.”
Each of the presenters on the night will have just 20 slides, shown for 20 seconds each, to tell their story.
Sculptor Harrie Fasher will take a break from making work for the National Museum in Canberra to talk about her passion for horses in art; award-winning painter Joanna Logue will share her artistic story; Kandos-based contemporary artist Christine McMillan will explain the boost the Cementa arts festival has given to her small town; and Fran Charge from Oberon Arts Council will recap the pioneer paver project at Oberon Common.
“We’ve been running these networking nights right across the region since June and are still getting great feedback from people about how enjoyable the nights were, how much they learnt about the local arts scene, how much it’s enthused them,” Ms Callinan said.
“People think ‘oh I know all the artists here’, or ‘I’ve heard all the stories’ but they were surprised to find such a depth of local ideas and talent.”
“There has been a real buzz across the region about the events and especially about the PechaKucha 20x20 format.”
PechaKucha 20x20 (pronounced peh-chacoo- cha) was started in Japan in 2003 by Tokyo’s Klein-Dytham Architecture. There are now PechaKucha nights in more than 700 cities around the world.
Everyone is welcome. Entry is by donation, and finger food will be provided.
The venue is 131 on Main at 131 Oberon Street (previously Cafe Savanna). Please RSVP for catering. Call Arts OutWest on 6338 4657.
