“Over the next two years gas prices will increase by 18 per cent, meaning families will pay up to $225 extra per year,” Mrs Coleman said.
“The average gas bill has risen by almost 80 per cent in the first three years of the Liberal/National Government.
“Small businesses will be paying more than $700 extra, with no choice but to pass that increase on to their customers.
“At a time when families and vulnerable members of our community are under economic siege from the Abbott Government, these increases are cruel.
“The Baird Government and the Member for Bathurst Paul Toole should be heeding the advice of people like the managing director of Jemena (AGL) to urge the Abbott Government to ensure gas is available to Australian consumers at fair rates before multinational companies export our gas to the world for huge profits.”
Mrs Coleman said shortages of domestic gas supplies will continue to force prices up if exports continue unabated.
“On top of escalating gas prices, Mike Baird has taken the leash off electricity providers that are now no longer subject to a cap on prices – the Baird Government has removed the maximum amount retail electricity providers can charge."
