Bradley Cook, 22, of Luchetti Place in Oberon, appeared before Magistrate Michael Allen charged with destroying or damaging property and reckless wounding. 

Police facts tendered to the court told how the victim and a number of associates were enjoying a few drinks at a home in North Street, Oberon on October 26 last year.

During the evening, one of the men had to leave the house for a while, and the victim went with him.

They were gone for about 15 or 20 minutes, and when they returned to the North Street home, everyone there was upset. 

People were yelling and screaming, with one witness telling police that Brad [Cook] “was going off his head”.

Police allege the witness was in the process of trying to organise transport for a girl who was at the house and was also trying to calm Cook down when he saw Cook walking up the road.

Police allege Cook then came back and swung a Wild Turkey glass bottle at the back of the victim’s head, smashing the glass.

The victim lost vision and turned around and sat on the back of a car, putting up his arms in self-defence.

Police allege Cook then stabbed the victim in the face with the bottom of the glass, causing a large laceration above his left eye, which later required eight stitches. 

Cook was held back by other people at the house, while the witness picked up the victim and drove him to his parents’ house. As they drove away, Cook returned to the victim’s car and kicked the door, denting it.

Cook was arrested on October 27 and he told police he had no memory of what happened, although he conceded committing the offences.

Police said he appeared remorseful for his actions.

On the damage and destroy property charge, Cook was convicted and fined $800. On the reckless wounding charge, Cook was convicted and sentenced to jail for 18 months, which was wholly suspended.
