Roads and Maritime Services will replace the old chain wire mesh fence on the road at Five Mile Hill.
Work will be carried out at night from 6pm to 6am, Sunday to Thursday, weather permitting, to minimise the impact on motorists.
Work is expected to be completed in early June.
The road will be closed to all traffic from Duckmaloi Road to the Caves during work hours.
During work all light vehicles travelling from the Great Western Highway to Jenolan Caves will be detoured via Duckmaloi Road, Titania Road and Edith Road to the Caves.
The detour will add about 25 minutes to the trip.
Detours will be clearly signposted and traffic controllers will be in place to direct motorists.
Motorists should plan their journey, and allow extra time.
