OBERON Public School’s Open Rugby League team has continued its winning streak with a hard fought victory over Young in Bathurst last week.
Young came to the match as Riverina Champions having defeated the strong Wagga sides in their earlier rounds. Both teams played a hard defensive game with some big tackles in the first half. The teams came in at half time locked together at 6-all.
Oberon scored twice in the second half and held off a determined challenge from the bigger Young boys in the final 10 minutes. Oberon ran out winners 16-10, showing a great team spirit and strong defence.
They move on to play the winners of the South Coast v Sydney game. This will be the State semi final and is yet to be scheduled.
The team has done exceptionally well with players coming from Years 4, 5 and 6 to play and defeat schools with huge enrolments during their march to the semis.
