On Monday the NSW Electoral Commission called for nominations from candidates intending to stand at September’s local government elections.
Members of the Oberon and surrounding communities will go to the polls to elect nine councillors to Oberon Council on Saturday, September 8.
To enrol to vote you must be 18 years of age and over and be an Australian citizen.
Nominations to stand for council will remain open until noon on Wednesday, August 8.
After that date the returning officer, Stewart Evennett, will conduct the allimportant draw to determine the order of the candidates’ names on the ballot paper.
At 8.30am on Monday Jill Evans was at the Oberon Council Chambers to register her nomination for a position on the new Oberon Council.
Jill believes that being a councillor can be rewarding, because it provides an opportunity to have an input into the decision making that helps people within the community, as well as providing an opportunity to influence the longterm strategic direction of council.
Jill has been involved with the Oberon community over the last 25 years has been involved with a wide range of voluntary work, which is ongoing.
She has attended each of the council meeting held during the past five years and believes the knowledge she has gained would serve her well if she was elected to council in September.
