There are six gardens open for inspection this year.
Brenda Lyon will have her garden open at “Brydie Park” on Sloggetts Road.
Brenda said the previous owners had established a small section of the three-acre area and when she moved in during 2010 her first project was to double the front area to create a colourful driveway with azaleas, daffodils and alpine phlox.
Two ponds have been revamped, now with running water and a collection of water plants.
A gazebo creates a peaceful area to enjoy some quiet time with a beautiful rural outlook.
As you stroll around the meandering paths you can observe the many flowering shrubs and perennials, such as mollis azaleas, peonies, poppies and bearded iris, which look their best at this time of year.
John Martin and Robyn Toedter will also have their two-acre garden open for viewing at 200 Albion Street.
This garden contains a wonderful selection of mature cold climate trees as well as many newer plantings.
An avenue of English Oaks leads into the property. Sweeps of lawn lead to numerous pathways where the extensive collection of herbaceous perennials and shrubs including tree peonies, magnolias, rhododendrons and dog-woods can be seen.
Established wind breaks provide essential shelter as well as being a great backdrop for the garden itself.
A well organised vegetable garden and orchard makes the household largely self sufficient. Here, raised beds make for more comfortable gardening.
This is a great garden for appreciating what can be achieved in a cold climate, where a wide range of plants has been carefully chosen.
■ Tickets are only $10 and are available, along with a brochure and map, at the Oberon Visitor Information Centre or garden gates.
