It has all gone to a host of charities. And June will be at the market again this Saturday.
June began selling her jams and pickles and other items for charity from her farm gate, but then enthusiastically joined the market when it was launched. She now gives her market proceeds to more than 20 charities.
She began with donations to the Catholic Children’s Mission, but now also gives to the Fred Hollows Foundation, Caritas Australia, a Catholic mission that works to improve the lives of Aboriginal people, Can Assist and several other cancer organisations, Kids’ Wish, UNICEF, Heart Research for Children, Multiple Sclerosis research and many other bodies.
“It’s usually between $20 and $50, which means that everybody will get something,” she said.
She also has a rule. She tells all the organisations not to send her more than one flyer a year.
“I see no sense in giving to an organisation which sends flyer after flyer, and spending all that money, when they should be putting the money to the use for which it was given,” she said.
Organisations that send June a second flyer get a letter from her, and then if they send a second flyer again, she takes them off her list.
As well as her jams and pickles, June also sells relishes and slices and craft wear.
A bumper crowd is expected at this Saturday’s market.
