IT was a pretty wintry day on Saturday: a bit of sunshine and a lot of wind chill.

A handy field of well-seasoned golfers turned out to play a stroke event for the monthly medal and a putting competition to boot. Very few played to their handicap – not much feeling in the cold hands.
Winner in A grade and monthly medal winner was Barry Lang with a solid round of golf to come in with 83/72.
He just edged out Kim Rawlings on a countback. Kim won the scratch ball on a countback from Rob McGrath. Kim also won the putting on a countback from Barry Lang with 27 putts.
In B grade, young Chris Lord forgot about the cold and posted a good score of 98/68 to win the monthly medal. The runner-up in B grade was Darren Gordon with a nett 73.
The B grade putting was won by Peter Dale, who is having trouble mastering the new handicap system, but can certainly manage himself on the greens. Kevin McGrath won the B grade scratch ball.
Nearest the pin on the first went to Rob McGrath, on the seventh to Anthony McGrath and on the ninth and 17th to Denis O’Connell.
The crew who played with Denis were just busting to tell the clubhouse just how Denis managed to achieve this feat and how unlucky he was to get knocked off on the seventh by Anthony.
Balls went to Neil Whalan.
There was a good number of golfers on Thursday and Laurie Murphy struck some long-awaited form and topped the day.
Balls went to Russell King, Peter Dale, Hugh O’Neil, Neville Kelly, Bob Slattery and Barry Stubbs.
Members put in a solid day last weekend in filling and turfing holes and depressions on some of the fairways. It was a great job and will be a big improvement to the course as the grass grows.
An individual match play will be organised over the next few weeks.
You will need to put your name down so that we can do a draw.
It will be run on the same basis as last year, with the losers of each round getting a ball or two depending on which round you go out.
The trophy for the match play champion is a very nice golf bag. Golf next Saturday will be a stableford event sponsored by Anthony McGrath and a 3BBB aggregate event in conjunction.
Oberon will host the Central West Veterans competition on Monday, August 12. Let Dick or the club know if you would like to play.
