Butterfly star

Following our earlier story, local swimmer Alex Bourchier competed at the PSSA (Public School Sport Association) State Swimming championships on 8 April, 2008.

Alex, pictured above, trains at the Oberon Pool Complex and Cityfit in Bathurst and competed at the Homebush Aquatic Centre representing Oberon Public School in the Western Region team for Junior boys 50m Butterfly. Alex’s goal for the day was to try and improve on his personal best time and enjoy the experience of competing at the State level for the first time. Alex achieved his goal and broke his PB by .02 and enjoyed the day immensely, especially seeing his name up in lights on the scoreboard! Alex says the day really inspired him to work hard in his training and try to improve on his times to make it back next year, maybe in a couple of events. Alex finished 36 out of 40 on the day and is proud to be the 36th fastest 10 year old Butterflyer across NSW public school students!! Well done!
