Slow start proves costly for Under 18s

18 Jun, 2009 08:49 AM
A SLOW start proved costly for the the MCF Engineering and Shell Oberon Under 18 Tigers when they went down 42-20 to Orange Cyms on Saturday.

The Tigers allowed Cyms to get away to a flying start, making too many mistakes in the first half. Time and time again Cyms charged the Tigers’ defence breaking through, finding the weak spots and going over that line. Dave Sellers used all his strength to get over the line for the Tigers. At half time the Tigers were down 24-4.

Whatever speech Daren and Buddy Hotham gave the boys during the break boosted the team spirits. The defence of Blake Fitzpatrick, Tyler Hughes and Kirk Roberts stood out in the second half.

Jacob Cummins, Scott Hoolihan and Dave Sellers brought the ball closer to the Cyms line each time they touched it. Bill Maloney had a good game, tackling everything and getting more of the ball this week to make good yards. Blake Miller was strong in defence and attacked well.Tim Cooper, Reece Finlay and Jake Coles threw the ball around creating many scoring opportunities for the Tigers.

Reece Finlay, Blake Fitzpatrick and Dave Sellers all scored in the second half. Steven Cook had a excellent game making some good breaks through solid Cyms defence. Andrew Milton White, Dylion Downy and Matt Callan made plenty of hard hitting tackles all game. Final score: Cyms 42 Oberon 20. Thanks to Blake Miller for backing up for the team.Try scores: Dave Sellers 2, Reece Finlay 1, Blake Fitzpatrick 1. Goals: Blake Fitzpatrick 2. This week’s game is against Mudgee at Jubilee Oval, kick off 1pm.

A reminder to Under 18s who haven't paid rego - please make arrangements with Mary to do so. Anyone interested in doing the strappers’ coarse, basic or advanced, put your name down with Ian or Mary. Full details soon. Happy 18th birthday Bill. Go the Tigers.
