Oberon Tigers bounce back to down Bears 32-20

22 May, 2009 03:28 PM
THE JELD-WEN/Oberon Quarries Tigers began slowly against the Lithgow Bears at the weekend. Maybe they were adapting to the cold weather but some big hits from both teams soon warmed things up in the centre.

Jamie O’Neill. hanging out on the wing, touched down for Oberon to open the scoring.

The Bears then showed some enterprising football, particularly in the backs, scoring a couple of nice tries.

The Bears led 16-12 at the break and played the better football with the breeze favouring them.

The Tigers applied the pressure from the beginning of the second half and were camped in the Bears’ territory. All the forwards played well with Nathan Booth named the players player for the second week in a row.

This allowed the backs some room to move and the tries started to flow.

The Tigers won 32-20. Try scorers: Dallas Booth 2, Herb O’Bernier 1, Scott Foley 1, Jamie O’Neill 1, Tony Curry 1, Shaun O’Neill 4 goals – 32 points.

Bears: Simon Mobbs 1, Mick Grant 1, Timmy Hughes 1, Jeremy Fittler 1. Goals: Jarrad Miller 2 – 20 points.

This Saturday the Tigers are at home to Kandos - the clash of the competition heavy weights.

Both sides are undefeated on 8 points in the Centennial Coal Cup competition.

With Kandos coming off a bye and Oberon carrying a few injury problems from the torrid clash with the Bears last week we are in for one hell of a match.

Please come and support Oberon’s great teams with the 18’s playing Cowra before the seniors’ clash.

Thanks to Caltex Oils Plus for their continued support again this year. Winner of $100 Caltex voucher was Greg Booth.
