FIVE Oberon pony club riders attended the NSW State Sporting and Campdrafting Championships at Glen Innes on April 17 and 18.
With fantastic weather, great company and a clean start the riders from Oberon, made up the Zone 3 Team, consisting of Sophie and Maddison Jones, Kristina Rolfi, Emma Whalan and Mikaela Sherlock.
This was their first time at State Sporting titles and brand new experience for the Jones girls. ‘
Sophie and her pony Rory competed in the 11 and under 13s. They had a great day achieving many personal bests. Maddison and her horse Charm competed in the 13 and under 15s. After a somewhat rocky weekend she is keen for an even better result next year.
Kristina Rolfi, Emma Whalan and Mikaela Sherlock are all senior members of the club. They competed in the oldest and largest age group on the weekend, the 17 and under 25s. The Saturday saw 75 riders from NSW and QLD battle out some tough competition.
Kristina competed on Saturday with Red. The horse has only been doing sporting for a couple of months and came home with some good and well earned runs.
Emma and her horse Frankie began with a good ride on the Saturday. In the Campdraft on Sunday, after a good first round, Emma secured herself a place in the finals, giving her a second chance to increase her score. She finished with a fantastic seventh place overall.
Mikaela and her pony Buffy also had a great weekend, gaining third place in the bending and 3 mug, a fifth placing in the Diamond Flag and a sixth in the Bonfield Bounce, giving her enough points to finish fourth overall in the sporting.
