Injury-hit Tigers downed by Kandos

22 Jul, 2010 09:56 AM
AN injury-hit Tigers outfit was defeated 23-14 by Kandos in a hard-fought and bruising encounter at Kandos on Saturday.

After a disappointing roll-up of 15 of our 31 registered players Tigers took the field with several players carrying injuries. Tyler Hughes played a strong game despite having a broken wrist.

Dallas Booth put the first four pointer on the board and Shaun O'Neil’s conversion was successful. Kandos fought back hard and tough, and by half time they had a 16-10 lead.

In the second half the Tigers couldn't get it together but they didn't give up at any stage.

Cheyne Barker, Luke Christie Johnston and Tim Cooper responded to the strong, hard defence from Kandos, making some strong breaks. Kandos scored only one try and a field goal in the second half.

The match was marred by a fight which followed some Kandos aggression on and off the field. Final score 23-14.

The courageous injured Oberon Tigers who took the field are congratulated for their effort and dedication.

Next week the Tigers will take on Portland Colts, at Oberon's Sports and Recreation Ground. The kick-off will be at 2:30pm.

Come along to this Saturday’s game and support a great charity – the Call To Arms Cancer Council appeal and the Oberon CanAssist organisation.

It will feature a full day of league with junior under 6s kicking off at 9am through to the under 16s at 1:10pm. Then main game will kick-off 2:30pm.

The day will include a monster raffle, auction, junior disco, entertainment right through to the night. Come along and enjoy the footy and support a good cause – the fight against cancer in men. Go the Tigers and good luck for Saturday.

Try scorers: Dallas Booth 1, Shaun O'Neil 1, Robert Hayden 1. Conversions: Shaun O'Neil 1.
