Good start for junior league

19 Feb, 2009 09:02 AM
THERE was a great turnout for the Oberon Junior Rugby League registration day on February 15 despite wet conditions.

Plenty of local kids want to play rugby league and there were lots of new faces as well as players from 2008. The all enjoyed a barbecue and a kick of the footy.

From the under 7s, who had 11 players sign up on the day, to the under 16s, it was great to see the enthusiasm of players ready to have a run.

With the mini players having to only travel to Bathurst and having home games this season, and a registration fee of only $45, league offers an economical way of enjoying winter sport.

All players will receive registration packs before the season starts in April. The pack includes socks, shorts, a hat and water bottle and at the end of the season all player will receive their jumper.

Players who registered on Sunday went into prize draws which were donated by local business houses. Prizes were donated by Mawhoods Mitre 10, Thrifty link Hardware, Mawhoods IGA, Shell Service station, Oberon Engineering, Sargents rural supplies, and Rob Boyd from Gold Country Home Supplies.

These Business houses continue to support local sporting clubs so remember to shop locally.

Any intending players who have not signed up can do so at any training session.

All kids are welcome to attend and join their mates playing the greatest game of all.

Training for all ages starts on Friday, February 20 from 4pm, at the Leagues Club football grounds. Some coaches are still needed for the 2009 season.

The club will run coaching clinics on Saturday, February 28 for the under 7’s to 12’s and on Sunday, March 1 for 13’s and older.

If you are interested in coaching a side you can contact our coaching co-ordinator Peter Cascoigne on 6336 1652.
