Oberon Tigers U7’s
WHAT a difference a couple of games of footy makes. In the space of a few weeks our future first graders have improved so much.
On Saturday our two under 7 sides played each other. Connor, Max, Jed, Jack, Caine, Tom and Jesse on one team, and Riley, Tyler, Lachie, Jordan, Nik, Phoenix and Jake on the other.
Both sides had great running games which resulted in some spectacular tries. The defence was also outstanding, with the boys managing to bring down players just short of the try line on numerous occasions.
All the boys showed great determination during a very evenly matched game. Well done everyone!
The Oberon-Bathurst Mini-League competition is off to a great start and the club thanks all sponsors - Gibbons & Saul, Oberon Leagues Club, Foodworks and First Super for their support.
Under 13's
THE under 13’s played a home game against a strong St Pat’s team on Saturday.
With a full turn up the boys had the advantage to keep a constant flow of FRESH players during the game. This kept Pats on their toes and challenged their fitness and agility.
The boys defended the line exceptionally well forcing Pat’s to push to the limit to score, and after a hard 10 minutes Pat’s finally scored.
For the remainder of the first half the boys continued with their strong performance. Half-time saw the Tigers down, but after a talk from Greg and Adam it was time to return back to the field and try their hardest to come back. Unfortunately St Pat’s had a different idea and slipped through the defence to score some quick tries raising the margin. Despite going down, spectators were impressed in the quality of football the boys displayed.
Coach comments after the game included: “Very BIG improvement compared to last week, the boys are starting to play as a team”.
Congratulations to Kain who received Players Player after his massive game. Thankyou to our sponsors Oberon Concrete, Oberon Pies and Pastries and Foodworks, and our dedicated coaches who generously give their time and put the boys first before their social lives.
Don't forget training on Tuesday and Friday, Good luck for Saturday.
Under 16’s
SATURDAY was the first home game for Dark Red Frames and Trusses under 16’s for the 2009 season. With home ground advantage and support of the crowd the boys chalked up a 26-16 victory over St Pat’s.
Col Elwin in his first game of the season, made the opening tackle and it was a cracker, and the start of an exciting game of football.
Bill Holmes played a solid game, running hard and straight every chance he got, being rewarded with a try.
Although Sam and Billy Gascoigne claimed to be feeling the effects of the Deb Ball from the night before, they both played hard and tough showing St Pats no mercy.
Play of the day this week goes to all the boys who showed 100% commitment, played as a team and believed in each other. Well done guys!
Once again a big thanks to the under 15s who backed up, and Blair Hooper & Hayden Christie-Johnston who joined us at half time after competing school sporting commitments.
Mums and dads please remember that the under 16’s are required to help in the canteen for one game every home game. Each family should only have to do one for the season. Please call scratch to organise your turn.
