The Call to Arms football day held on July 24 has raised more funds that expected, with a total profit of $8482.14.
With $3000 going to Can Assist $3650 had already been donated to the Cancer Council. When proceeds from the auction and so on were worked out the Cancer Council then received a further donation of $1832.14.
Organiser Mary Jacobs-Maloney said that it was a great day for all and was very effective in getting the issue of men's cancer out in the open.
"I hope the greater winner on the day is the message we were trying to get out there: the awareness of cancer in men,” she said.
“There is help out there, so please if you are affected by cancer or you know some one that has cancer, reach out and ask for help.”
Mary thanked businesses who kindly donated items to be raffled and auctioned. "You made it possible for us to raise funds for a much needed course, cancer in men," she said.
"Thankyou Michelle McKinnon, Caroline Dwyer, Judy Jacobs, Gasso and the cook Peter Maloney for a surperb job in the canteen. Without you the canteen would not have run for the day.
“Thanks also to Kerry Gibbons, our gate keeper, who does a great job each home game."
