The Oberon JELDWEN Hexion Tigers’ unbeaten record has been shattered by the Lithgow Bears in a very close battle over the weekend.
The Tigers’ were off to a good start with a try scored in the 7th minute by Shaun O’Neill, but with a missed conversion.
The Bears answered the Oberon try with a converted try in the 12th minute, and another converted try in the 23rd minute making their lead a promising 12-4.
Scott Foley scored for Oberon before half time, and half time was welcomed with Jamie O’Neill visiting the sin bin, leaving the score at 12-8 with plenty of work to be done by the Tigers’ in the second half.
The Lithgow Bears came out fighting in the second half, scoring two tries with missed conversions, to be answered by another Oberon try scored by Scott Foley in the 58th minute. With the Bears on 20 points, Oberon steamed on scoring two converted tries, making the scores a nail-biting even 20 at the 65th minute.
A field goal by Dallas Booth in the 71st minute gave the Tigers’ the lead of 21-20. Poor discipline towards the whistle blower with penalties 11-4, and lack of ball control when in possession lost the Tigers’ the game. The Lithgow Bears scored in the final minute to claim the game.
So the Tigers’ bad game for the year is over and now they will improve their performance and strive this Saturday to show their supremacy in beating last year’s premiers, Gulgong.
A good crowd is expected to watch the Tigers’ this Saturday at their home ground at 2:30pm, where they will be warming up for the semi-finals in two weeks time.
Please come along and support the boys. A big thank you must go out to all the supporters for their loyalty.
The points stand at present as follows: Oberon Tigers on 22 points, followed closely by Kandos on 17 points, Portland on 16 points, Wallerawang on 15, Gulgong on 13 points, Lithgow on 9 and Blackheath coming up the rear on 4 points. Like a tiger!
