OBERON Pony Club girls performed well when they travelled to Scone with their families for the State Sporting and Campdrafting meet during the last weekend in April..
Emma Whalan, Krystina Rolfi and Mikaela Sherlock, all associate members and representing Oberon and Zone 3, entered all seven sporting events on the Saturday. Great weather and great riding saw all three girls do exceptionally well. It was a huge event with 350 riders present including the Queensland State team.
There were 89 riders in the associate group with seven events - Bonfield Bounce, Bending, Flags, Barrels, Three Mugs, Running T and Diamond Flag.
Krystina, riding Grafiti, attended her first State Sporting event and qualified in 5th place to make the finals of the bending race. An exciting finish saw her take out second place with a time of 11.l3 seconds. Krystina rode very well in all her races but with such a strong and large field was unfortunately unable to repeat her fantastic performance in the other races.
Emma, who was riding Freckles, missed out on a ribbon by 0.9 of a second in the Bonfield Bounce and gained 11th place. She also rode in the campdrafting on the Sunday with a great ride.
Mikaela who won the State title in 2007 rode Sparkles and gained three 6th placings in the Bending, Flags and Barrels. With three ribbons and a total score of 15 points she took out 9th placing overall in the Associate group.
The three girls also went to the Bredbo Sporting Event in January of this year and blazed their way to victory in 41 degree temperatures. Mikaela got the champion of the day with ribbons in almost every event and also took out the special award for fastest overall time in Bonfield Bounce for which she won a Man From Snowy River stock whip! Emma was Reserve Champion and Kiystina wasn’t far behind!
