At age nine, Oberon’s Ricky McMahon is already being talked about as a possible future soccer star for Australia. Ricky has been selected in the Under 10s Project 22 football squad, which has the aim of developing players to become future Socceroos and Matildas to potentially compete at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
As a Football NSW initiative, Project 22 identifies the best players in the Under 9-14 age group across NSW, aiming to lay the foundations required to give the best youth footballers in the state the highest chance possible to succeed at the elite level.
Ricky attended two sessions of trials at the beginning of the month in Orange, and progressed through to finally be selected in the squad.
Ricky will be trained regularly throughout the year by highly experienced and qualified instructors. It will be a busy as he has also been selected in the Bathurst district team.
