Oberon Pony Club has had teams compete at the games for the past six years.

Mounted Games is an internationally recognised pony club and non-pony club sport. This year the championships attracted 42 teams from throughout the State.

Oberon Pony Club entered two teams and the zone also entered at team.

A zone team is made up of pony club members 17 and under 25 year old and they don’t have to be from the same club. The Oberon High Flyers had a good weekend winning a couple of their heats and gaining a lot of State competition experience. The team consisted of Natalie Lynch, Brianna Carlon, Marissa Reilly, Jasmine and Kimberley Perish.

The Oberon Rough Riders made it into the final of the Five Flag race.

They were placed fifth and received a ribbon. They also won several heats but were not quite fast enough for the finals.

The Zone 3 team made it into the finals of the Postman’s Chase, Old Sock Race and Tack Shop Race.

They gained two seconds and a fifth in these finals. They placed sixth in most other races just putting them out of a chance in the finals.

Brendan Luther was chosen to ride at squad again this year. He is among 15 riders who will train for the next seven months before five of them are chosen to ride for the State team at national level.

Ben Luther will go to Adelaide in November to compete at the senior National Pony Club Mounted Games Championships. We wish Ben and his team the best of luck.
