It’s already been a big year for Oberon boy Connor Sherlock. After his selection as a lone star athlete for the Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) he has gone from strength to strength.

Connor took the shotput silver medal at the National All Schools meet last December in Hobart after winning taking medals along the way at the NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) and the NSW All Schools meets.

As part of the WRAS program Connor has been able to access a throwing coach which has helped him to refine his style.

He performed exceptionally well at the NSW junior championships at Homebush in February this year winning the shotput gold medal and the discus silver after notching personal best performances in both events.

Next step was the Australian/Oceania Junior National Athletics Championships also held at Homebush on the weekend March 13-14. Connor achieved a personal best in shotput throwing a massive 17.63m in the u/18s and winning the silver medal for Australia.

He also gained a credible fourth placing in the discus event.

His coach Ernie Shackleton was very pleased with his performance and has him pegged for the 2012 World Junior Championships.
