Good start to men’s bowls triples

19 Aug, 2010 11:43 AM
It was a good start to the Oberon Men’s Bowls triples championship last Saturday.

Five of the best weather-hardened teams stepped onto the green. The weather, a typical Oberon winter’s day, was very much against the players and long Johns were on the menu.

The first match was between Ken Kitt’s team, Gill and Chris, against Bruce Fitzpatrick’s team, Jeff and John.

It was a close match right to the end, but Bruce’s team came home with a 23-19 win.

Bruce’s team contested the afternoon games as well.

The first match featured Jody Taggart’s team, Paul and Bob, who defeated Des Evans’ team 19-13 after a close and very interesting match.

In the second game it was Bruce Fitzpatrick’s team, Jeff and John, against the Braun Bros, Hans, Helmut and George.

It was a slow start with both teams playing some excellent shots, but slowly the Braun Bros got the upper-hand and downed Bruce’s team 26-13.

Congratulations to all bowlers, everyone played extremely well in such wintery conditions.

The two winning teams skipped by Jody and Hans will now play in the triples finals on a date to be advised.

All bowlers please remember our recruitment drive – please bring a friend and on September 5 remember an expert coach will be at the green at 10am. Come along, there will be a sausage sizzle after the game.

PLEASE NOTE: The monthly meeting has been rescheduled to Sunday, August 22 at 11am, same place. Happy Bowling.

Karl Braun – publicity officer.
