OBERON RSL Fishing Club members have been travelling all over the country and catching fish. The Darling River at Bourke gave up a 45-pound cod although he wasn’t hooked in the usual hole but at the other end – Red may have a story to tell.
Bugs and the boys have also been out west. I hope he took his flippers. As the big wet continues it is great to see the flows into Oberon dam. It is spawning season for trout and this is a great opportunity to give the fish time to build up numbers. The local dams have being giving up some good trout and red fin.
The south coast waters are warm for this time of year with plenty of flatties in close and some good tuna out wide. The seas at Nambucca in July were fairly wild. Nine members dragged themselves away from the beautiful Oberon weather and chanced their arm trying to catch a feed.
Bugs forgot to hang onto his rod – it is now a mantlepiece ornament on the edge of the reef. The worst part was, it was a borrowed rod. Rowen, Jim and Bugs were not going to let the bad weather stop them. After taking some air sickness tablets they set off returning with a bag full of snapper and pearl perch. A great trip was had by all. The club AGM will be held at the RSL on Thursday, August 26, starting at 7pm. All are welcome.
