Fish River sailors overcome light conditions at regatta

22 Jan, 2009 08:56 AM
THE 28th Annual Sailing Regatta for the Fish River Sailing Club attracted 10 boats from throughout the Central West last weekend.

Three Oberon sailors were among those who contested the regatta. Great sailing weather on Saturday saw two heats raced. Calmer conditions on Sunday resulted in less exciting sailing, but another two races were sailed.

Shane Moorhead and Chris Longmuir took out the Catamaran division while Marcia Lac, who travelled from Orange, won the monohull division on her Laser Radial boat.

The sailing club has struggled to attract members over the past few years and is doing its best to stay afloat to keep this fantastic local recreation facility available for Oberon.

The club thanks all sailors who continue to support its regattas, and invites locals off all ages who may be interested in sailing to contact Shane Moorhead on 0407 935 527.

The club is also looking for someone interested in coming along of a Sunday during summer to drive the club safety boat.

You don’t need to own a boat, or have any previous sailing experience to get out onto Oberon Dam and enjoy our local waterway!
