Favourites take squash grand final

02 Jul, 2009 12:19 PM
THE grand final of the 2009 Oberon Winter Squash competition was a hotly contested event watched by a good crowd.

Team One were the confident favourites for the title after their opponents Moorhead Engineering came from fifth place into second through the finals. In the end it was Team One which took out first place with a decisive six rubbers to four victory.

Zac Maher not only played all of the games on his own line but also played up in the line above for the entire competition and was a difficult opponent on both lines with many upsets occurring.

The members of the runners-up Moorhead Engineering team are: Darren Foley, Hamish Anderson, Emily Newstead, Andrew Sargent, Zach Maher, Mick Evans, Scott Nunan, Brody Maher and Bec Nunan.

Members of the winning Oberon Sand and Gravel team are: Matt Bogart, Dillon Harey, Karen Harvey, Brad Harvey, Ben Bogart, Rayleen Corby, Brodin Corby, Jess Certom, Guy Nicoll and Jason Lansom.

New players for the upcoming competition are always welcome and a grading night for them will be held on the first Wednesday after the school holidays (July 29) at the Oberon RSL at 6pm. The competition will begin on the following week.
