Double girls’ hockey coaching success for Oberon teacher

01 Jul, 2010 09:49 AM
ST Joseph's School teacher Jaydem Hudson is experiencing huge success in his coaching career, recently taking two girls’ hockey teams to the top of the podium.

Jaydem coached the Bathurst Junior District Association under 17 girls in Canberra over the June long weekend, where they took out first division, beating ACT 2-0 in the final.

Jaydem also co-coached the under 18s girls along with Maureen Markwick in Orange at the State Championships over the weekend. That team overcame bad weather and many injuries to beat Tamworth 5-1 in the final of division two.

The win was especially sweet after the girls lost to Tamworth 3-1 in their first game in their pool.

A state player himself, Jaydem plays in the premier league for St Pat’s in Bathurst, and this year has begun coaching Oberon junior girls under 13s and under 15s hockey teams.

Coaching girls hockey is a new experience for Jaydem, who has coached boys hockey in Bathurst previously.

Local Sarah McCusker excelled in defence in the under 18s girls’ win at the State Championships in Orange. Sarah was invited to play in the State team after a player was injured.
