With the horse flu a thing of the past for most of the country, horse events are starting to be re scheduled for the coming season.
The Oberon Campdraft Committee will be holding a general meeting this Friday night at the O’Connell hotel at 7pm to discuss the Oberon draft that has been scheduled for 29th Of November 2008.
Every one is most welcome to attend and offer words of advice and constructive criticism. (Yes Bluey we said constructive!)
The majority of committee members are competitors and the committee find it very difficult to run a draft without the help of dedicated volunteers like Jack and Neil Whalan, Terry Bell and Brian Maher.
An event the size of the Oberon draft is usually run over two days and can become a logistical nightmare when organising competitors, cattle and an evening
function.
We are very lucky when it comes to the cartage of cattle as local identities Darren Thomas, Billy Ryan and Duck Whalan are always there to offer assistance.
The local farming community is always very generous with the loaning of cattle but we are always looking for numbers as some years we have had over 750 entries. A beast is only ever run once so with 750 entries we would require at least 800 head. Needless to say if you have a few cattle running around your property someone from the committee will be in touch.
NOTE: Meeting 7pm Friday 25th July, O’Connell Hotel. Everyone welcome!
