NINETEEN riders braved cold and wet weather to attend the Oberon Pony Club meeting on June 7.
Pony club dressage instructor Kerrie Hayes conducted classes in flat work with riders doing gentle work due to the slippery and wet conditions.
Kim Lynch took the younger group for sporting games.
The National Mounted Games were held in Yass on Sunday, May 17.
Ben and Brendan Luther both competed at the games.
Ben competed on Trixie in the open age group and gained second place, missing out on first by one point.
Brendan competed on Tammy in the Under 17s and was third in his pairs. Brendan’s other horse, Recoil, was loaned to a Western Australian rider and the horse and rider performed well.
In other news, eight Oberon Pony Club members rode for their various secondary schools at the North West Equestrian Expo.
The four-day event was held in Coonabarabran from May 30 to June 2. Over 100 schools competed in the event.
All riders came away with a placing in an event:
• Heather Salmon riding for Scotts School Bathurst gained third place in the restricted height Show Jumping.
• Harry Phillips riding for All Saints’ Bathurst gained second place in the Key Hole and fifth place in the Time Trial. In the Team Barrel Races his team was sixth among 112 teams;
• Natalie Lynch, riding for Mackillop Bathurst, did well in the One Day Event ( dressage, show jumping and cross country) finishing second in her group and also first in the restricted height show jumping in her age group.
• Brendan Luther riding for St Joseph’s Oberon gained tenth place in the ODE, third in the bending and third place in the flags and was fifth among 54 teams in the polocrosse along with team-mates Kiara Hopwood and Jarita Hopwood.

Given the record number of entries from NSW and beyond in this year’s expo this was a very gallant effort by all the Oberon Pony Club riders.
The members all came away with wonderful memories.
