Hockey success for veterans

18 Mar, 2010 09:00 AM
TWO hockey teams from the Oberon and Bathurst district’s contested Veterans’ hockey matches in Canberra at the Fred Bennetts Carnival on March 13 and 14.

They fielded a first division and third division team, a difficult task considering the hockey season hasn’t started. Both teams played four 40-minute games on the Saturday.

The third division team played Candelo Coasties and won 2-0, played Tuggers and won 2-1, played Tumut 3 and had a 1-0 loss, and played one-all draw with Norths.

By 5.20pm all our girls we sore and exhausted.

On the Sunday morning, with our fresh bodies but sore legs, we played Canberra’s home team Fojers (the pink ladies) and finished a nil-all draw.

This then put our girls in third position by one point, we were so unlucky.

One final game was a play-off for third and fourth positions. We watched our fantastic first division team take fifth position.

Our girls were then determined to third position in division three.

We took the field at noon to play Norths again. We had rain and then hot sun shine, but we all played great attack and defensive game to come away with a great 3-0 win.

Congratulation to our girls for a fantastic team effort and a great final result.

Thank you must go to Libby Milligan for her excellent organisation, Tommy Tattersall for the umpiring and a to Sheree Richards and Sandra Black and their crew for our beautiful bunked (partying, laughing, snoring and sleeping) accommodation and five-star dinner and service.

Once again we all had another great veterans’ hockey weekend away for our Bathurst and Oberon teams. Thanks Girls!
