The Oberon RSL Tiny Tots and the Gibbons and Saul under 7s and under 9s all had terrific games on Saturday. The Tiny Tots practised their skills and joined forces with All Saints’ in their game against St Pat’s. Shiny, Ella and Shaya showed off the skills that they have been learning with Sarah on Tuesday afternoons. The girls are really starting to trap, pass and control the ball well in their games.
The under 7s and under 9s had two games - the first against Souths and the second against St Pat’s. All players played really well as a team passing, trapping and holding their positions on the field. On Saturday short corners featured as the skill practised during the games. Sophie and Emily played well in defence controlling the ball and getting out quickly to pick up the short corner passes. Scott defended and attacked well in both games using his skills to get the ball through the opposition. Claudia, Natalie and Steph played well in attack, calling for the ball and bringing the play out to the wings and the side of the field. A big thanks go to the expertise of our under 13s - Bec, Meg, Shan and Tarah - who helped the team out in the first game and to Sharon, who ran the team on in the second game. This week,s players player went to Emily Thomas.
The BWG Under 11s side played Kelso this weekend and have continued their winning streak, defeating them 2-0. Goals were scored by forward line strikers Olivia and Danielle. The ball was fed from our backs up to our halves then onto our strikers, so well done to all. Shannon and Kaylee also had a very strong game. This week Brian’s encouragement award went to Shannon Foley, and our Oberon First National players player went to Ivy Moore. Next week we play a tuff St Pat's white team. So good luck girls.
Under 13s
HIGHLAND Pine played St Pat’s White and despite some good defence were beaten 8-0. Goalie Kaitlin produced some spectacular saves, with excellent defensive backup from Lydia, Ranai and Emily. Halves Shannon, Rev, Tarah and Keeley maintained their consistent efforts in defence pressuring the opposition to play at their very best.
The hardworking forward line of Casey, Courtney, Sarah,Rebecca, Meg and Tanisha produced some good attacking plays on many occasions. They had many scoring opportunities but were unable to find their mark. Emily Kirkman was rewarded this week with the Miller and Phillips Players’ Player award. She always puts in 100 per cent in her role as fullback.
Oberon Trash Pak U15
Oberon Trash Pak played Kelso in an even contest. Close passes, particularly between forwards Claire, Madeline, Stephanie, Renee and Jessie, allowed Oberon to make many run away plays into Kelso’s half.
However, Kelso’s strong centre attack often left Oberon on the defensive.
The Oberon backline of Leslie and Emma and our floating halves, Sarah Mc and Sarah W., had a spectacular game.
It was through the efforts of these girls that Oberon managed to keep Kelso out of the circle for most of the game.
Halves, Korine and Leah also played a pivotal role, moving the ball around Kelso defenders and carrying it up to the forwards.
Through a team effort, in the dying minutes of the game, Oberon scored. A pass across goal by Claire was tapped in by Renee.
The Oberon Engineering Players Player of the Match went to Leana, for her outstanding ability in goals. Although under pressure the entire game, Leana shone during the second half. Leana managed to save multiple shots on goal and was successfully able to clear the ball from the circle time and again. The score at full time was Kelso six, Oberon one.
