Under 7s and 9s

OBERON’S Gibbons and Saul under 7s and 9s team played two hard-fought games against Souths and St Pat’s on Saturday. In the first game Oberon came away with a one all draw against South’s. Wells done Stephanie for scoring our only goal ... you deserved it after all that running!

Natalie, Scotty and Katie (one of our helpers form the other team) were excellent up front. Vanessa, Kim, Emily and Claudia played very well, sharing the halves and backs positions with Georgia, our other helper form South’s. Thankyou Georgia and Katie Cuzner for your assistance - you played some great hockey.

We had a tough game against St Pat’s despite the fact of going down we all played as a team and played our positions well. The other team had a few more players and our team has some under 7s players in it too. We were also down a player form the first game. Well done to our forwards for helping to defend as our defenders were trying as hard as they could to stop them from scoring. This week’s award went to Emily Thomas for her excellent defence and attack in both games. Thankyou Sarah, Meg and Shannon for running us on this week. Thanks also to Sarah and Mrs Armstrong for training them each week. - Meg Booth.

Under 9s

THE Under 9’s played two games on August 15. In the first game against St Pat’s we took the field with only seven players compared to 11 for St Pat’s. Our team played a great game but found it hard to compete against four extra strong players. The final score was 4-0. A big thankyou to Meg, Tarah and Shannon for running the team on at this game.

In the second game we played All Saints and three of their players joined our team to field equal sides of 10 players.

This was one fantastic game to watch. Steph Fisher and Claudia Humphries played great attack with the help from the three All Saints players. Natalie and Scott Mawhood played good attack and defensive but injury stopped them for playing a full game.

Emily Thomas, Sophie Foley and Vanessa Muldoon defended strongly and always ran the ball out and around the All Saint’s players to their own attacking players.

All of our players never gave up with their attacking consistently in the game getting the ball.

The final score was a 1-nil loss. The whole team has had a fantastic improvement, Congratulation!

Our MacDonald award this week went to Vanessa Muldoon. Thank You to Sharon for the milky-ways and for running the team on in the second game.

A big thankyou to Sarah McCusker and Joc Armstrong for coaching us every Wednesday at our hockey training session. See you all at 10am on Saturday morning.
