Girls blitz championships

24 Jul, 2008 02:04 PM
Last weekend, four girls from the Oberon Girl’s Hockey Club represented Bathurst Districts Representative U/13 teams playing at the Half State Championships at Parkes over two days.

Division 2 players Sarah McCusker, Emma Swannell and Gemma Adams had a great carnival and played well. They were unable to make the finals, but they gained tremendous experience at this

elite level.

Division 1 player Claire Sullivan had 1 loss and 3 wins, putting her team in first place in their pool, to play the grand final with South Coast. In a nail biting game, Bathurst was victorious, winning 4-2. This was the first time Bathurst District has ever won the Under 13’s state title. The division 1 team played very consistently over the representative season, winning 4 carnivals out of 5 played, and only conceding 4 goals over these 5 carnivals. Five players from this side have been successful in making it into the NSW U/13 shadow squad. Well done to all four girls. The Under 13 Oberon girls have done themselves and Oberon proud.
