Three stick golf event provides a challenge

23 Apr, 2009 09:03 AM
TWENTY players turned up for the demanding three-stick stableford competition last Wednesday. The scores were not as strong as usual, perhaps proving that members really do need all those extra clubs in their golf bags! However players thought it was fun trying to pick the most appropriate sticks and most had an enjoyable game. The combination of a five wood, seven iron and a putter was the choice of many on the day. Trophies were donated by Helen Toohill.

Yvonne Collins was the winner in Division One. Yvonne played with a three wood, five iron and a putter. Glennie McGrath was second, and Marjorie Webb third on a countback. Robyn Slattery was nearest to the pin.

Colleen Saul was the winner in Division Two. Colleen played with a driver, a three rescue wood, and a seven iron. Colleen said it was tricky putting with the rescue wood at first, but she gradually mastered it! Helen Toohill was second and Vicki Keen third. Colleen also won nearest to the pin.

The halfway point score for the Oberon First National quarterly competition has Helen Toohill in the lead with 26, and Joan Graham second with 22 points. They are closely followed by Yvonne Collins and Elizabeth Mackenzie with 20 points each. With another six rounds to go, anything can happen!

On Wednesday, April 29 an 18 hole stableford event for trophies donated by Marjorie Webb will be held. On Wednesday May 6 there will be the 18 hole stroke monthly medal and Mabel Mackenzie Broach competitions.
