Most golfers would love to experience the thrill of hitting a hole-in-one. After that, the experience of getting an eagle on a hole (two under par) would have to run a close second.
Some might even argue that the eagle Robyn Slattery scored last Wednesday on the 11th comes very close to getting a hole-in-one when you consider this hole is 260 metres long, has a dog-leg bend in the middle of it, and is a par 4, which means Robyn got the ball in the hole in only two strokes.
For her efforts, Robyn won an “eagle’s nest” consisting of 20 balls. Well done Robyn!
Not only did Robyn perform brilliantly on the 11th, she also won Division 1 of the 18 hole par competition held on this day. Trophies were donated by Pat Rickard. Robyn won with a score of plus 2, on a countback from Elizabeth Mackenzie. Joan Graham came third with minus 1. Joan was also nearest to the pin.
The winner of Division 2 was Lyn Prowse with minus 1. Elizabeth Mawhood was second with minus 2, and Helen Toohill came third with minus 3. Nearest to the pin was Joan Sullivan.
Recently five of our golfers played in a tournament at Cowra. Although rain dampened the event somewhat, our golfers played well with Helen Toohill coming second in the 18 hole handicap on the second day. Helen was also runner-up in the 36 hole handicap event.
Marjorie Webb and Yvonne Stapleton won prizes for nearest to the pin. Well done ladies!
Coming up there will be an 18 hole stroke, monthly medal event on Wednesday July 2.
On July 9 there will be an 18 hole stableford competition for trophies donated by Yvonne Stapleton.
