Kyle takes Lithgow golf title

22 Apr, 2010 10:53 AM
A STRONG field of junior golfers from Bathurst, Orange, Cowra, Kandos, Blue Mountains, Oberon, Strathfield and Lithgow contested the Lithgow Junior Open on April 16.

Tournament organiser and Lithgow Golf captain Max Nightingale said there were some good scores in near perfect conditions. Winner of the Open title was Oberon golfer Kyle Ryan who finished with a tremendous one over par 73.

Ryan plays off a handicap of 14 and pipped Lithgow golfer Nick Bender, who led for most of the day on 78 before Kyle finished his round late in the day to take the title.

Bender had to be satisfied with the runners-up trophy.

Winner of the overall handicap event was Lithgow golfer Caleb Hanrahan who has been one of the big improvers at the club.

Caleb finished with a net score of 64 net to finish five shots in front of Kandos’ J Taylor from the Henbury Club.

The Under 16/17 years scratch went to Lithgow’s Ian Nightingale with 79 from H Yan of Strathfield on 80.

Under 14/15 event went to Lithgow’s Zac Flynn with 87 from Cowra’s C Hibbertson 98.

Under 12/13 scratch winner was Bathurst’s S Mattheson with 83 from Lithgow’s Harry Bender on 88.

Under 16/17 handicap winner was T Rowen from Wentworth on 70 net from Lithgow’s Josh Hanrahan 71 net.

Under 14/15 scratch winner was B Wilson 71 net from Lithgow’s Lachlan McMahon 79 net.

Under 12/13 handicap winner was Katoomba’s B Ranse 70 net from Bathurst’s T Horton 74 net.

The best net score from a Lithgow golfer went to Caleb Hanrahan with his 64 net.

The longest drives went to Zac Flynn (junior) and Josh Hanrahan (senior).

Nearest the pin awards went to Tyler Horton and Travis Roweth.

One of the pleasing aspects of the open was the number of cadets who competed.

The top 10 who finished from a field of just on 20 were: Sam Mostyn, Brock Egan, Ethan Chambers, Dane Mostyn, Sam Denmead, Corey Oldfield, Dean McMahon, Blake Arthur, Tom Stapleton and Hayden Crowder.

Congratulations also went to Lithgow’s Maddy Bender who was the only girl in the field and played some good golf. Nearest the pin of the Cadets was Corey Oldfield.

Nightingale said the Lithgow green staff did a great job to present the course in great condition.

“Thanks also to all the sponsors who helped make the day the success, Barry and Maxine Staines and Garry Marshall for manning the barbecue and to Jeff Geddes and the Lithgow Mercury for their coverage of the event.”
