Warriors upset Macquarie Whites in tough fourth grade soccer clash

18 Aug, 2011 04:00 AM
Fourth grade

OBERON Warriors travelled to Bathurst at the weekend to play the notoriously hard-to-beat Macquarie United White team.

Macquarie was first to score with a chip kick over the keeper and, what was worse, the scorer was a former Oberon player – thanks Wayne.

The Warriors took time to settle before Bruce scored our first goal, and that was followed a second by Clinton.

It was 2-1 at half time and the

challenge was really on.

The second half went up a level and both teams played some lovely football.

Mitch then scored Oberon’s third goal and the final goal of the game to give the Warriors a hard fought 3-1 win.

The two sides will clash again this weekend at Oberon.

Great effort by all this week – Ben hit the park running this week and had a strong game, and was supported well by Muharem, Garry, Dave and Brad.

Glenn appears to have made the goalkeeping job his own with another strong performance.

The defence of Kyle, Andy, Logan, Wayne and Dan was strong and required a lot of commitment.

One of the highlights of the game was a shot at goal by Dave; the Fox was playing in his new boots.

The battles over the past few weeks are just what the team needed as the semi-finals are fast approaching.

As always, there are no easy games at that time of the year.

Muharem scored three points from the officials for man of the match and this week’s Players’ Player points went

to Ben with 26. Muharem also scored well.

The game next weekend will be at home at 9am.

Due to the bye in the last round, it will be the Warriors’ last competition game for the 2011 season.

Come down to the ground and cheer the boys on before they go into the semi finals, and hopefully some luck will come along for the ride.

See you all at training on Friday night.
