Warriors too strong for Dads Army

23 Apr, 2009 09:02 AM
OBERON United JELDWEN Warriors travelled to Bathurst at the weekend to play Bathurst United Dads Army.

The team was happy to be playing on field one, and with a strong win last game, was looking forward to another round.

Unfortunately Oberon started slowly and were down 1-0 in the first couple of minutes. However they soon lifted and started to put together some good passes.

Mitch had a opportunity to get one past the keeper but hit the post, before managing to score and get Oberon on the sheet.

Rod made a good run, and was taken down in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot.

Rod showed his leadership and placed the ball on the spot, and slotted in nicely into the back of the net, leaving the keeper little chance to save the goal.

Oberon then went through some hot and cold patches of play and this area of the team’s play needs to be worked on in training.

However when things are not going well someone always makes a difference.

There were some great tackles in the backs, with great games from Logan and Brownie. Mick Hogan had a solid game, especially when asked to play sweeper.

Jimmy D put in a man of the match performance and played strongly in the centre midfield.

Some great through balls from Dan, Clinton and Dave, with Kenny (affectionately known as Etha) making solid runs down the flanks and putting in several nice crosses.

Swanny had a great game in goal making some nice saves to keep Oberon in the game.

At full time the score was a 5-3 win to Oberon - One goal to Rod and four goals to Mitch. All goals were the result of great teamwork and talk.

The team should be proud of their performance even hungrier for more wins after these early successes.

Thankyou to Jason Hogan for supporting the team. When he was on the park his presence was inspiring.

Next week the team will again travel to Bathurst for an a 11am kick off. See you all at training on Friday at 6.30pm.
