Warriors continue great run with 6-0 victory

30 Apr, 2009 12:57 PM
OBERON JELDWEN Warriors travelled to Bathurst to play Churches United in the men’s soccer competition last weekend.

Previous wins had the Oberon team in good spirits, and there was only a one man bench with all the guys were ready to play hard to maintain their good record.

Oberon started strongly and as the coach filled out the team card Mitch scored the first goal.

Kenny {Etha} made a nice run down the left flank, dummied giving the impression he was going to put in a cross, took another couple of steps before taking all by surprise and having a shot at the near post, and beat ing the keeper.

A couple of minutes later another goal and the Warriors were up 3-0 in the space of 15 minutes.

It was 4-0 by half time, and the final score was a convincing 6-0 victory.

Everybody had their minds on the job during the game - there was not one player who did not have a good game. This was evident when all the best and fairest points awarded by the officials went to Oberon players. The players players points were also spread across the team, with the bulk of these going to the defenders, Wok, Brownie and Logan.

Logan had a great game making many attacking runs and making inroads into Churches United territory.

Swanny had another solid game in goals, while Kurt, Clinton and Fuzzy played strongly, sending lovely through balls for the forwards.

Jimmy D had a great captain’s game leading by example.

Goal scorers this week: Mitch 2, Rod 2, Kenny 1 and Jimmy 1.

The team fought hard this week, and played strongly for the 90 minutes. This type of effort will ensure we have a great season.

Thanks again to Jason Hogan who helped this week.

Next week the Warriors will play at home with a 9am kick off against a strong City Red Tops. Come along and cheer on the Warriors. See you at training on Friday night, 6.30pm.
