FOUR Oberon soccer teams contested grand finals at the weekend scoring one win and being narrowly defeated in two other matches. On Suturday the Oberon under 13’s were defeated 4-0 to minor premieres Macquarie United Wranglers. On Sunday the Oberon ladies third grade went down 2-1 to All Saints in a close and hard-fought match. The third grade Oberon mens side was also narrowly defeated by Collegians on Sunday. The match was decided by a shootout after the scores were locked at 3-3 after extra time. Collegians eventually won 10-9.
The ladies second grade team offered Oberon’s last hope for a win and they came out with all guns blazing to defeat Churches 5-0.
Oberon United came away with several Bathurst Soccer Association awards this season. These included: Ladies C grade highest goal scorer - Renee Newstead (27 goals); Ladies second grade best and fairest - Clancy Pye; highest goal scorer - Monique Pointon (41 goals); best defender - Sarah Sargent; mens third grade highest goal scorer - Jason Sargent (26 goals). Well done to all.
District try outs for under 12’s, 13’s, 14’s and 15’s will soon be held at Proctor Park. Times and dates are: Under 12’s – September 27 at 2pm, under 13’s – TBA.
The soccer presentation day will be held on Saturday, October 18 at the showground (12pm for the Juniors and 6.30 for the seniors). All teams are asked to hand in their kits to Ron Carley or Mark Pointon on presentation day.
