Justin Beattie of Oberon Primary School won all his preliminary races, his semi-final and final at Maitland last October long weekend to become his age State Champion for the third consecutive year.
As the Australian 10 Years Boy Champion, Justin rides for the ONE Bicycles factory team. His clean-sheet score also helped this team win the State Corporate Team Event. As the Southern Region Champion he also helped his Southern Region Team win the State Regional Team Event.
Justin’s sister Brianna raced well and earned a third place plate in her age class. His younger sister Emily managed a fifth place plate in her class. His father, Jim, scored a fifth place plate and mother, Natalie, rounded off the family tally with a sixth place plate.
Grandad Bob Beattie from Penrith said: “The weather rained on and off over the two days but the Maitland Club had the track surface and drainage maintenance well under control. This track firmness allowed riders to treat the crowd to the pack jumping and close finish spectacles typical of the sport.”
The family plans to finish a satisfying year of BMX racing with a visit south to the Victorian State titles in November.
Justin is looking forward to next year and to qualifying for the Australian team to race against the Kiwis in the annual Trans-Tasman Mighty Elevens team event.
