Road cut by rising river

26 Aug, 2010 01:07 PM
The downpour of rain has resulted in overflowing dams and swollen rivers across the district.

The Fish River where it meets the Hazelgrove Road about 20 kilometres north of Oberon was quite a sight last Thursday morning after heavy overnight rain.

Tony Buckland, who lives on the Hazelgrove Road and has been the Australia Post mail contractor for the area for the last 16 years, said that after crossing the river every day, this is the first time since the early 1990s that he has seen the river flooding the road.

Mr Buckland said there was a high level bridge at the crossing until the late 1980s, when it was destroyed by flood waters.

If the rain keeps up, they may need another one!
