There is still limited information about the by-election which will be held on October 23 to fill a vacancy on Oberon Council following the sudden death of Councillor Bob Hooper.
A spokesperson for the NSW Electoral Commission said the election was very much in its early stages, but it is likely nominations will open on September 13 and close on September 22, and that the electoral roll for the local government elections will close on September 13 2010.
The spokesperson said voters are likely to be able to pre-poll vote from October 11.
The Oberon Review understands a person can be nominated as a candidate by at least two electors enrolled in the Oberon local government area, and that a person cannot self nominate.
Nomination forms are available from the returning officer, by downloading from the NSWEC website www.elections.nsw.gov.au or by calling the candidate help desk on 1300 135 736.
Nomination papers may be lodged with the returning officer conducting the election, either in person, by post, by fax or email.
It is also likely that the Electoral Commission will conduct an information night for those interested to becoming councillors.
Those interested in nominating for Oberon Council or who would like more information can view a copy of the handbook for parties, groups, candidates and scrutineers at the Electoral Commission NSW website at www.elections.nsw.gov.au under handbooks and forms.
The Oberon Review understands a returning officer is still to be appointed for the election.
