Oberon’s Australia Day Ambassador Peter Herbert is an accomplished and successful writer and producer with an extensive range of credits in television, stage, event work and film.
He has worked in senior executive, management and creative positions for major Australian, American and British companies.
He has created original programs and formats, and has successfully sold his own work around the world. Broadcasters include Comedy Central in the US, Paramount Comedy Channel, the BBC, Channel 5 and Sky in the UK.
Peter has been responsible for many number-one rating and award winning dramas and comedies on Australian television, and has worked on many classics of the Australian industry - Cop Shop, The Flying Doctors, The Comedy Company, Acropolis Now, Dossa and Joe.
He has created and/or co-created highly successful and internationally prestigious annual events on the comedy calendar - The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Charity Gala, now in its 16th year, and The World Comedy Tour.
Peter chaired the major international writers' festival, the National Screenwriters Conference, for over a decade, has been involved in the planning and execution of many industry events and conferences, been a regular industry judge on awards shows such as The Logies (and produced the Logies in 1992), the International Emmy’s, the New Zealand Qantas Television Awards, and the ASTRA Subscription Television Awards.
Peter has been both Head of Drama and Head of Producing at AFTRS, Australia’s premier Film, Television and Radio school. In this capacity, he has been responsible for executive and structural planning, as well as marketing courses both nationally and internationally, to Korea, Singapore and New Zealand.
He still develops new programs: One of his recent ventures was editing the book, Mathematics and Sex, by Dr Clio Cresswell, published throughout the world.
He recently script-edited the feature film Perfect Victim, shot in 2007.
