Bill Wilcox has been named 2010 Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contribution to the Oberon community.
Bill has been heavily involved in establishing the Oberon RSL War Memorial and Remembrance Wall for the service men and women of Oberon who have sadly passed on.
He has been involved in establishing and maintaining units for ex-service men and women and ex-service widows and widowers, so that they can continue to live in Oberon close to family and friends in suitable accommodation.
Bill is currently the President of the Oberon RSL Sub-branch as well as serving as the District President of the Blue Mountains Sub-branch for returned service men and women.
He regularly raises money for legacy and is a Vietnam Legatee. Bill co-ordinates group activities for war widows such as dinners, movies and other special activities as well as providing
assistance to these people when needed.
Bill can often be seen at various school functions throughout the Oberon district and always gives his time generously to school and community groups.
Bill has been instrumental in establishing the Sister City relationship the Oberon Council and community enjoy with Eceabat in Turkey. Bill visited Turkey in 2008 along with his wife Sue, and is now in the process of establishing a memorial in Oberon that will replicate the words of Mustafa Kamal Ataturk displayed in Peace Park in Gallipoli.
