Why you should join our joggers

30 Jul, 2010 08:43 AM
A group of Oberon locals are stretching and lunging in preparation for this year's Edgell Jog, and they are inviting others in the community to get involved.

From this Sunday, the group of keen joggers, walkers and possibly even crawlers will be meeting weekly to get fit and in shape for the Edgell Jog and to raise funds for the Oberon Hospital.

Personal trainer Guy Nicholl of PT Just 4U will begin training sessions this Sunday in preparation for this eight kilometre fun run in Bathurst on September 12, and has invited locals of all ages to come and train up, not only for the jog, but to get in shape for summer.

Guy said the jog is a fun family day out, and that the group members want to encourage as many locals as possible to come along and be part of the Oberon team.

“It will promote fitness in Oberon,” he said.

Guy said locals wanting to become involved pay $100, which will provide for a T shirt and entry to the jog, eight training sessions before the jog, and all left-over funds will be donated to the Oberon Hospital.

The group members are already keen to improve their fitness and also help out the Oberon Hospital by preparing for and participating in the jog, which Jenny McCarthy says "is not a running race!"

Leanne Barlow, another member of the group, said she aims to complete the eight kilometres under an hour, and that it is a great opportunity for families, and even mums with strollers or those with a dog, to become involved.

If you wish to get fit, participate in this great fun day and also contribute to the wonderful Oberon Hospital, turn up to the first training session, this Sunday, August 1, at 3:30pm at the Oberon Recreation Ground.
