With obesity on the rampage in Australia, it is encouraging that Oberon locals are fighting the growing trends.
Local Vibeke Lange has 30 reasons to celebrate, having hit a milestone in her weight loss journey and shed 30 kilograms.
Vibeke began her journey after Christmas in 2008, joining the local Weight Watchers group after her weight reached 100 kilograms.
Now, Vibeke has reached her goal weight and is a life member of Oberon Weight Watchers.
Vibeke said the local Weight Watchers Group is very encouraging, guided by leader Christine Sullivan.
“Christine is a great leader. She is always there to help and give support,” she said.
Vibeke said that healthy eating and exercise, in her case walking, were essential to her weight loss.
Vibeke said to lose weight she had to recognise her weight problem, and use determination and discipline to control her eating and stick to her exercise program.
The ability to still be able to eat favourite foods through Weight Watchers was a real drawcard for Vibeke.
“It is just sensible eating with good guidance,” she said.
Vibeke said the best thing about her weight loss was the feeling of agility and a greater sense of well-being.
“It can be done. It is great to realise that something can be done,” she said.
