A YOUNG man and woman from the Oberon area have been charged over the murder of an elderly woman in Singleton last month.
The defacto couple – Scott O’Heir, 25, and a pregnant Cheyenne Jasmine Anderson, 22 – appeared last Thursday before Registrar Mark Nicholls in a special Local Court hearing at the Bathurst Court House.
O’Heir and Anderson have been charged with the murder of Hiliary Muriel Allen at her home in Boonal Street, Singleton. It is alleged the offence occurred between 6pm and 8pm on Sunday, March 1.
The were arrested about 3pm on Wednesday last week when police from Strike Force Light swooped on the Oberon town library. They have been refused bail to appear before Singleton Local Court today, Thursday, April 16.
Hunter Valley local area command crime manager Detective Inspector Timothy Seymour laid seven charges against O’Heir, who gave a George Street, Singleton residential address.
The charges relate to the murder of Mrs Allen, a special aggravated larceny, the wounding of Mrs Allen and four other break-ins in Singleton and Emu Plains between February 27 and March 7.
Anderson, who gave her address as Oberon Caravan Park, is facing 10 counts including murder, special aggravated larceny, wounding, use of corporal violence causing grievous bodily harm and deprivation of liberty, plus a number of theft and break-in charges.
Mrs Allen’s body had been discovered by her son on Monday, March 2 in the ground floor garage of her two-storey apartment, Inspector Seymour said.
Solicitor Kathryn O’Donnell said she represented both defendants.
While O’Heir was not applying for bail, Ms O’Donnell had considered making a exceptional circumstances bail application for the heavily pregnant Anderson.
The registrar Mr Nicholls took into account the serious nature of the charges when he formally refused bail for O’Heir and Anderson.
